I'm seventeen years old but I'm going to turn eighteen next month and I'll admit that I'm kind of scared, when you're a kid you dream about becoming an adult and pursuing all of your childhood dreams, you can't wait until you grow up and get the hell out of your hometown and escape to someplace exotic and exciting, adulthood's every kid's dream but then when you're actually an adult or weeks away from becoming one you wish you could rewind and be a child again. Having weeks before I'm forced to mature is a terrifying feeling! I have a lot coming up – planning my eighteenth birthday, exams, an internship, college and there are so many choices eighteen year olds have to make – scary choices! I have chosen NYU as my college, I wanted to go to Columbia but sometimes not all dreams are worth pursuing or sometimes they're just out of reach and beyond pursuable, they don't tell you that when you're eleven and you spend six months researching your dream job. Most people graduate school and never achieve their dreams, but I'm lucky because I'm never going to be one of those people, last year my prayers were answered and I achieved my dreams before even leaving high school which was unexpected. When I was sixteen, I was determined to become a famous songwriter, I loved literature and writing my own songs, whenever my high school was performing a school play I'd write the songs and whenever there was a talent show, wannabe singers would ask me to write songs for them to perform onstage. That was my dream, a dream I never thought I would actually achieve and during my sixteenth year, that dream of mine changed. My peer slash friend Neel (Burrowz) was a rapper who also sang harmonies and melodies and after a karaoke competition, he encouraged me to make singing my first priority so I spent my allowance on a camcorder and uploaded videos of myself singing covers and songs I'd written myself on my favourite website YouTube. My best friend Ellie texted me telling me to check out my channel so I did and I had over one million hits. I posted tonnes of videos and became a global YouTube phenomenon; it was amazing to see how many people liked my singing and my songwriting. One day, I was called by Michael Johnson who was a huge fan of my videos and signed me to John Sainsbury Media Group (JSMG.) I recorded some songs and posted them on YouTube to see what kind of a reaction they received but no-one liked them, JSMG sent me to Hollywood Records who dumped me because of my surroundings and the fact that they didn't see me as an appropriate role-model for kids and teenagers. A few months after my rejection, I was signed to EMI records USA by famous record producer Mike Porlock. It may not seem obvious but I was given a lucky break and achieved my dreams, I'm living proof that if you really believe in your dreams, you can achieve them and begin living them. My advice is to never give up on your dreams and never let anyone tell you that you're a star, just keep on shining and giving everything your all and you'll go far!
