Every month, hit website YouTube have an Annual Interview in which they pick their idea of the most famous slash talked about on YouTube celebrity and this month, I was chosen which was appropiate since I was discovered on YouTube. At first, I didn't actually believe them, my cell phone rang and I was like "hello?" And then this woman said "hello, Ivan McCrough, right? This is Anya from YouTube, you've been chosen for the Annual Interview, what do you say?" I was in shock. I grew up watching the Annual Interview's on YouTube so to actually be taking part in one was an amazing opportunity for me and I didn't believe 'Anya' so my response was actually "can't you just give me a break?" And I hung up but whilst on YouTube, I disovered that the offer was legitimate and that 'Anya' was seriously interested in interviewing me for the channel so I rerung her and agreed. She gave me the address and after unpacking, I ran to the studio to meet with her, we did the interview which was an hour long and posted it on YouTube but it won't be watchable for another month - so look out for it! I chose some of my favourites out of the questions I was asked and decided to post them on here - so enjoy!
Hi, Ivan, can you tell me a little something about your upcoming second album, Curses?
"Sure, the new album is called Imac which is my nickname, and it's dedicated to well, myself, so it's a very personal album and something very close to my heart, the sound's different too, it's not as fun, it's a lot more serious and a lot of it is about death and heartbreak because when I wrote most of the songs, I was thinking about....things."
How about your new single, It was You?
"It was You is about my deceased dad so it's very close to my heart as well and I want people to respect that, it's about losing someone and it breaks your heart and you're like 'I don't want to give up on love and it feels like I'm going to end up doing exactly that' you know? It's personal and by singing about it, you can avoid talking about it."
Can you tell us some more about your famous friends - who would you like to work with next?
"Timbaland - he's had a lot of hits and he seems really cool, Katy Perry recommended him to me so I called him asking if we could record something together and I'm still waiting for a reply. I'd also like to work with Mr Hudson and I think it would be pretty cool to work with someone like Keri Hilson too! I've worked with most people, I think, so it's difficult to keep it fresh and new which is complicated."
Do you have a celeb crush?
"Not at the moment, I'm still fishing around in search of one, but I think that when a guy has a girlfriend, he should remain faithful to that girlfriend in every shape, way or form, once you've comitted yourself, you can't be crushing on other girls or flirting with them. Mercede trusts me hanging out with other girls but if I pulled anything she would never forgive me, that's why I don't drink either, having no control over yourself when you're in a relationship is super important."
Apparently, you and Mercede are engaged?
"I'm too young to comitt myself in that way! Marriage can ruin relationships so I don't want to get married, me and Mercede are only seventeen we're way too young to be that serious so early in our lives. We're kids, getting engaged is the last thing we want to do, I love Mercede, but I'm not ready to cut every other girls I've ever known out of my life just to provide happiness for my girlfriend - that's not on."
What about Paulie Thom - ever since you baby-sitted her, you've become her celeb crush.....
"Paulie Thom is only eleven and I could never date an eleven year old, she's a really sweet kid but there's no future for us, I love her but only because her mum's one of my best friends - I could never date an eleven year old. Sorry, Paulie!"
That interview was awkward, I'm pretty sure I broke an eleven year old's heart - ooops! Paulie, if you're reading this then I guess I'd better go visit you and give you a sorry hug slash pep-talk! Bring on the Thom household!
