I sat on my bed eating pizza and watching Family Guy, I was so happy, everything was perfect, pizza, Family Guy and the best part of it all: Steph. Me and Steph had been best friends since kindergarten and I'd always secretly fancied her but it was obvious she didn't feel the same way about me, Steph was gorgeous, funny and kind and everything about her was perfect except the fact that she was unavailable thanks to her stupid jock boyfriend Carlos. Carlos was the most popular guy at Lakewood, he was mean and stupid but everyone still liked him especially Steph, I didn't understand why she was so crazy about such an idiot when I'd been right beside her for the last thirteen years, how could she not notice me? I smiled at her, she looked so cute when she laughed and her overbite showed, she wasn't laughing at me though, the centre of her attention was the TV. I sighed and switched the TV off, Steph scowled at me "Ivan, what are you doing?" She demanded "it was just getting good! Are you jealous that I can enjoy something and you can't?" I shook my head but it was too late, Steph slipped into her shoes and grabbed her purse "thanks for an awesome night, Ivan, until you ruined the entire thing!" She stormed out of my room "Steph, wait!" I called "don't leave, I was having fun!" But I'd already blown my chances, I sighed, why did I have to ruin anything? Steph would never like me as more than just a friend and even that was debatable sometimes!
I sat in the classroom doing band practice with the school orchestra and Mrs Allan when there was a knock at the door, the music stopped as Mrs Allan went to answer the door and Steph stepped inside "oh, Stephanie, what's the matter?" Mrs Allan asked, Steph grinned "I'm sorry, Mrs Allan, I was wondering if I could sit in here for a little while? I'm due for a dentist appointment so my mom's on her way but she's not here yet and I didn't want to wait alone. Are there any empty seats?" Mrs Allan smiled "you're in luck, we happen to have an empty seat right next to Ivan! Is that okay?" "Any other seats?" Steph asked blushing, Mrs Allan shook her head, Steph sighed "okay then" she sat beside me and scowled. "What's the matter?" I asked "are you still upset about last night?" "I'm a little more mature than that, Ivan" Steph said smiling "well, what's wrong then?" I asked "you've been avoiding me all day." Steph blushed again "it's not because I'm mad at you, I just....I can't explain it right now but I promise it's not because I'm upset about you turning th TV off, that's totally stupid" "right" I agreed "we're not little kids anymore" "exactly!" Steph cried in triumph, it was then the door opened and the receptionist Ms Adams stepped into the room "Stephanie, you have a dentist appointment" she announced "I know" Steph grinned, she waved to me "my mom's waiting for me, I'll see you around, Ivan" "see you" I smiled waving.
I was in my room talking to Steph online after school a few hours after her dentist appointment.
Imac: Hi, how was da dentist?
Steph: It sucked as usual, how r u? Sorry about earlier, was that really embarrassing?
Imac: No, it was fine, I'm used to being interrupted. After all, I do get shoved into a trash can like every day, right?
Steph: I'm sorry, I don't understand why Carlos doesn't like u, mayb if u 2 hung out 2gether he'd realise wot a nice guy u actually r?
Imac: Count me out, Carlos has h8ed me since day #1 + u of all ppl no it, Steph.
Steph: I'm sorry but I can't force my bf 2 like u, Ivan. R u going 2 da dance da day after 2morro?
Imac: Wot dance???
Steph: U no, the charity barn dance at da church, you no?
Imac: Oh, dat dance! No way, my mom's in charge of decorations so I won't be able to show my face there and avoid public humiliation at da same time.
Steph: LOL, u shouldn't let your mom get in the way of ur having fun.
Imac: No offence, but 2 me, a dance isn't exactly fun, I'm sorry, Steph.
Steph: Don't worry, I understand, c u 2morro!
Imac: Wait, where r u going? Bye.
I sat in the bleachers with the rest of the school orchestra preparing to watch the big basketball game, Steph was cheering so I had to be there to support her or she would never forgive me plus I liked watching her cheer because she was the best on the entire team and I got a kick out of it. The basketball team jogged on to the pitch wearing their uniforms, Carlos was at the front of the line, he scowled at me and I booed but nobody else bothered joining in and Steph just gave me a thumbs up sign and a cheeky wink, I blushed. The game began and then at half time, the cheerleaders game on to do their little half time cheer, the part all the guys in Lakewood looked forward to the most: half time. This match, they were doing a pyramid which the Lakewood cheerleading squad hadn't tried for centuaries and the top of the pyramid was Steph, when the cheerleading squad ran on to the pitch, the crowd went insane and everyone cheered and some of the older guys whistled, I resisted. The pyramid was formed and Steph was lifted on top of it when suddenly, she fell and the entire pyramid collapsed, the crowd booed and as the basketball team ran back onpitch, I heard Carlos hiss at Steph "it's over, sweetie-pie, I'm done doing your dirty work just so you can impress that guy you like." His words hit me like stones 'that guy you like' who did Steph have a crush on? I'd always thought it was Carlos she was crazy about. Her ankle was badly fractured and then she blacked out.
Steph's eyes finally opened and she looked at me vividly "Ivan? What are you doing...? The hospital? How did we get here?!" I smiled "you fell off the pyramid and Carlos dumped you, remember? You hurt your ankle and then you passed out, the school went bellastic but I had to be with you so I broke school rules and followed the ambulance here and demanded they let me see you." Steph gasped "you did all that for me? Why?" I pursed my lips "this is going to sound kind of stupid but I love you, Steph and I want to be with you for the rest of my life!" Steph's eyes widened and I kissed her full on the lips for a whole five minutes "I'm really awake now" Steph giggled "I love you too, Ivan but I don't want our relationship to ruin our friendship, understood?" "We're not friends anymore" I reminded her "we're boyfriend and girlfriend and we always will be, we're perfect for each other!"
TEN YEARS LATER.....
The priest smiled "you may now kiss the bride!" He declared, I looked down at Steph and kissed her full on the lips "I love you" she told me and I smiled and said "I love you too, even after a decade and now you're my beautiful, blooming bride!"
