Hi, Ivan, welcome to Jimmy Kimmel Live! is there anything specific message you'd like to give to anyone particular who may be watching at home before we begin?
"I want to say hi to all my friends and family who are watching, I'm on TV, guys, that's when you know you've made it!"
I'm sure they'll appreciate that heartfelt message, Ivan. Now back to the important stuff, what exactly are you going through right now? It must be difficult making the most of your last summer of freedom, am I right?
"Absolutely, it's very hard to enjoy this summer because there's a lot on my mind at the moment, I'm nervous about going to NYU, sitting my entrance exams, moving to NYC permanently and I'm worried about both my career and my relationship with Mercede is going to suffer so it's hard to relax."
You're about to start shooting the music video for your new single, Poudin, which will feature Selena Gomez as your video girl! Are you nervous about the shoot and meeting Selena?
"Selena seems like a nice, normal, down to earth girl so I'm very excited to meet her but I'm worried about the video content because I marry my video girl and it's going to be strange marrying Selena Gomez with Mercede watching the whole thing. I'm too young to marry so when the director told me the video content, I didn't approve but then I met Selena and I understood why he'd made the decision. She's an amazing girl and the wedding scene is going to be a lot of fun!"
What's Poundin about and what does marrying Selena Gomez have to do with the ongoing theme?
"Poundin is a dance tune about going through a tough break-up and turning to your favourite songs to help you get through it and then you never want to look at another girl again, you're like 'maybe I'll just marry music!' so in the video, I stand up Selena at the alter in favour of my choice to choose music over girls. I really like the video content and I'm excited to start shooting in the Bahama's on Monday - it's going to be awesome!"
Did you have a say in your video girl and who would be your ideal video girl?
"The director chooses ten girls and introduces me to them and then from those ten, I choose my favourite and she gets the part of my video girl, Pixie Lott actually auditioned but I had to choose Selena because Pixie's my friend and that would be too awkward, I had to choose a stranger in case it got too weird. My ideal video girl would actually be Mercede herself because it would be great to work with my girlfriend but unfortunately that's disallowed because I've been banned from shooting with people who are familiar."
That's kind of unfair, will Snoop Dogg apear in the video?
"Yeah, he plays like the dark side of me who does wants to marry Selena and we kind of see what would have happened if I hadn't made that decision between Snoop Dogg and Selena which means Selena becomes pregnant so then we had a mad search trying to find 'our' child which was crazy! But we finally used a random baby and then for the older scenes we used a child star from the UK called Kane Appleburnt."
You put a lot of effort into your music videos, do you take them very seriously?
"They're really important because they're the story behind the songs so I like them to be stunning and really show people what the song represents and means to me. I owe that much to my fans."
What's been your favourite music video to shoot so far?
"It Was You was really cool because it's a bunch of home videos of me and my dad because the song is dedicated to him although it's actually about a pretty bad break-up I went through a couple years ago but it can be about dad too which is always fun. And I really liked shooting By Yourself because my video girl was Lady Gaga who I wrote the song with and she did a great job, she'd make a great actress actually because her performance was totally believeable and I loved working with her!"
Your song Baby, Girl is on neither of your albums, is it a sneak peek of your third?
"No, originally it was just a possibility but then I posted it on the blog and the buzz encouraged me to release it officially through EMI records USA publicly and I'm glad I did because it's been a huge success and I will definitely consider it for my third album which is yet to be titled or released."
When is your new album Imac going to be released?
"I'm not sure yet because the deadlines are ever changing. Originally, it was going to be released on my birthday but then I found out about the release of my friend Katy Perry's second album and I thought it would be cool if we released both our second albums on 30th August which is three days before my birthday so I plan to keep it on that date."
Good thinking, your performances in your music videos are astonishing, would you ever consider acting?
"I'd like to but it depends on how things go from now, when I go to NYU next month I want to study english lit, english language, drama and history as well as choir because it actually has the best drama department in the country but I don't know if I'll be able to do professional acting under such a tight schedule so if an opportunity came along then yeah but at the moment I don't know."
When you move to NYC are you going to stay in the dorms at NYU or rent an apartment?
"I'm definitely going to stay in the dorms toward the beginning of the first semester but not permanently because I want to live in the villa with my family eventually but I won't be with the entire family because Skylar and Maribell stay in the dorms at Columbia at the moment."
After college, would you like to go to university?
"Yeah, but I'm going to university in the UK because I'm not very successful in Britain and I want to get a seperate record deal over there, if I do go to university then it will be only three hours a day because then my career will end up suffering big time. I've finally gotten my big break and it would be a waste of time and effort to just throw that away."
How are you going to stay in touch with friends like Andy, Ellie and Mercede, will your friendships survive the distance?
"College and university's all about finding out who you are and what you're going to be and pursuing your dreams is part of the experience. I've had great fun with all my friends but this is an important time for me and I need to be away from people I'm comfortable with in order to find myself and achieve self accusation and realise what and who I'm supposed to be."
Thanks for appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live! Ivan, see you soon!
"Thanks for having me, Jimmy, I enjoyed the interview and I'll definitely be posting my favourite parts of my blog!"
Ladies and gentlemen, Ivan McCrough!
